No doubt one of the ideas of making custom skins that were "Mods-Off" community/developer approved for Multiplayer, was that you couldn't have things like hi-viz skins that only buddies could see, transparent parts that allowed spotting advantages, etc. I'm pretty sure it wasn't all about aesthetics though, or keeping pink unicorn paints out of the game and turning it into a joke. If a set of standards kept away potential skinners who weren't willing to make paints that adhered to a sense of plausibility, I think that was a good thing. The current mgs in alpha are super accurate buzzsaws out to 500m allowing old school long range plane sniping with no synchronizer limits on firing speed.
